Buzz words, especially in education, are sometimes just a gadfly zipping in one ear and out the other. Sometimes however, the buzz turns into a whine and then a roar. I'm not sure what stage of noise 'flipped classroom' has reached but it deserves a look and a listen. Check out this link and then look at my Symbaloo for more links to 'flipping'. The Symbaloo buttons are in the lower right side. Check them all out and watch the 20 minute Ted talk by Salman Kahn.
Flipped Classroom:
The flipped classroom will be the basis for our virtual classes on October 15 and 17 (remember no classes in Roush 204 those days) You are on your own to study the 'Flipped Classroom'.
+1 Yes! I feel like that in order to create a harmony environment in class, it is essential to be aware of the flipped classroom. Cooperative learning is a good way for both students and teachers because teachers have more time to communicate and help students keep up with the class. I like this.:)
ReplyDelete+ Extremely interesting topic. I am interested to hear what others have to say about this 21st century learning theory. I can definitely see both the pros and cons for flipping the classroom. After reading the articles and watching the video, I am still unsure what side of the theory I fall on.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe the changes that the world goes through all in relation to technology. I am interested but weary of the idea of flipped classroom. I do recognize some benefits as well as some potential problems with this new way of learning. Much to think about. Interesting, easy to read article. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think that flipping the classroom could be beneficial sometimes. As in the example of the math teacher, she still lectured and then had the videos available if the students needed to remind themselves of something. I think however, especially with young elementary students, flipping the classroom would not always be helpful. A lot of the things you teach those grade levels is very basic and I think using an old-fashioned pencil and paper helps the students learn a lot more. How would you be able to teach reading through screenshots? I don't know if that would be feasible.
